US migrant Visas

US migrant Visas

Whether you are staying in the US as a Temporary Migrant, such as a student or business visitor or whether your trip here to be a more permanent move there is something which all will need to investigate and this is your accommodation.

Business Visitors may have this option taken care of by their company and can be looking at a fancy inner state hotel if they’re lucky, or a cheaper authentic motel room if they’re not so lucky!

Those migrants who are due to arrive through no companies or agencies tend to have the accommodation options solely down to themselves and there is a lot to consider with this in the US.

Under US law landlords cannot refuse properties to people due to who you are, for example if they discriminate because of race or colour, your country of origin, reliegious beliefs, your gender, secuality or beacuse of any disabilities then they have broken the law. There are many US departments where you can report these actions to for full investigation and it is something which is strictly forbidden in American society today.

To rent a home in the US is quite straightforward. You can find houses available for rent online, through an agency or an estate agent and you can arrange a viewing yourself. It is always wise to not attend house viewings alone as a matter of sately initially but also to have someone impartial there to point out the things you may not notice if you fall so in love with a property for example you may omit to notice there’s damp issues, hazards, faults or that the neighbours are less than desirable.

When you rent a home you generally do so for a time limit of either 6 months, 12 months or 18 months at a time though this can be negotiated with the individual landlord. You are required to have supporting documents for your immigration status to show you are here legally and you will usually be asked for a deposit amount and one months rent money upfront. You get your deposit money back when the contract, or lease, is over. During your stay in a rented house or apartment you and your landlord both have obligations to each other, while you are there you must treat the property accordingly, do no damage and stick to all which will be outlines by the landlord prior to signing. In return, any repairs which need doing during your stay are down to the landlord and not yourself to rectify.

To buy a property in the US undergoes much of the same process as regards viewings and finding a property. You will usually buy through an Estate Agent though it could also be a private landlord and it is essential that you hire your own surveyor pre signing to ensure that the property is as described and there are no faults which are only a matter of time etc.
