The tests required for US immigration

The tests required for US immigration

Many foreign people who wish to enter the United States of America will be fully aware of all the visa process, how to apply and what to expect and there are many agencies who are there to help with all of this. There is one element of your application process, however, where you are totally alone and can not receive any help. If English is not your natural language, or even a secondary one you may be highly concerned with what is required of you to pass the English Language test. Secondary to this is the American History test which is compulsory and has much bearing on the final decision of your application. Both of these tests will require much study and research from yourself and there are absolutely no ways to cheat these tests.

You may wonder if you can get the answers from previous successful applicants but the questions in both tests are changed regularly and it is highly unlikely you will be asked the same set of questions as people prior or previous to yourself. There are no ways round it, to pass these tests you must have sufficient knowledge yourself.

An initial interview will be arranged with an American Immigration Officer, this is to find out more about you, your background, your qualifications, work history, family, dependants and if you have not already then now is your final chance to disclose any previous convictions. If done now then the harm will not be as great as if you are discovered to be a previous convict after the entire process, this will lead to immediate deportation with permanent exclusion and a possible custodial sentence. It is of the essence to always be honest when dealing with officials and official legal documents.

The following step with be the English Language Test and this it to test your ability to read, write and speak English. You will be judged on your oral language ability during the previous interview which gauges your eligibility to entry. You cannot study for this, immigration officers have many ways to check whether the words you say are free flowing English or copied words, for example they may ask you where you bought your coat from, or how you traveled to the interview, these are trick questions and in place to catch out any persons who do not have the correct English they claim to have.

Next is the reading part of the test, there is no way you can prepare for this in any other way than to study and learn English correctly as papers are changed consistently. You will be asked to read aloud one to three sentences and this will make the examiner aware of your ability to read English.

The final part of the English Language test is the writing part. Some people find it a lot easier to learn to speak a language that to be able to read and write it so this can sometimes be a daunting task.

Finally is the American History test, or otherwise known as the Civics Test. This is in place to discover your knowledge of the country you wish to immigrate to. There’s a compiled list of 100 questions and ten will be randomly picked for you to answer, of these you need to answer correctly at least six to pass the test. You can do as much study as you wish on American History and Government Policies prior to this to stand you in the best sted.
