Study Abroad in USA

Study Abroad in USA
An increasing number of individuals from around the world are opting to study abroad in USA because of the chance to experience a different culture and gain a different perspective whilst pursuing an education.

However, just because you have been granted a visa to study abroad in USA doesn't mean you won't be subject to immigration checks at border control. If you look closely at the fine print, you may spot some additional conditions which you will need to be aware of if you want your move to be as smooth as possible.

How to study abroad in USA:

Firstly, although you can apply for a visa to study abroad in USA a number of months in advance, you cannot actually enter the country until 30 days before your course is due to start. This rule applies to the start of your program to study abroad in USA; if you have renewed your visa or have a multiple entry permit, different conditions will apply.

A visa is a completely different document to a passport and you will need both to enter the US to study. However, if you are planning on traveling for a prolonged period such as studying, rather than a simple holiday, your passport will need to be valid for a longer period. As a general rule of thumb, border control will want to see that your passport will not expire for at least six months after you enter the country.

Requirements to study abroad in USA :

Even if your passport and visa are both current and valid, immigration officials at border control will still want to be satisfied that all your documentation is consistent and there are no discrepancies before they let you through the gates. When you were granted your visa, the consular official should have sealed the documents and attached them to your passport. Do not be tempted to open this envelope; documentation which may have been tampered with could cause you problems when you try to gain entry to the USA.

You will be required to show certain documents along with your passport and visa when you request entry to the USA. Your SEVIS form along with proof of financial means, the contact details for the Responsible Officer at your educational facility and evidence of student status (such as course receipts) may all be requested therefore you should carry the information in your hand luggage. If they are put in your suitcase and this is lost, you could find yourself refused entry or significantly delayed. Consider all these before you plan to study abroad in USA.
