Relocate to USA

Relocate to USA
Making the move to relocate to USA on a permanent basis means more than were you just spending a couple of months on an extended trip.

Although permanent residency is not the same as being a full citizen, deciding to relocate to USA for good means being willing to embrace the rights and responsibilities the status bestows.

When you gain approval to relocate to USA on a permanent basis, it makes life much easier than if you only hold a temporary visa. You won't need to constantly request permission to extend your stay which not only means less paperwork, but no renewal fees to pay out for either!

However, even though you may have been granted approval to relocate to the USA on a permanent basis, that doesn't mean your right to stay cannot be rescinded. If you engage in serious criminal activity, are shown to have committed fraud on your application or stay outside the USA for too long, you may have your permanent residency withdrawn. It is possible to travel for prolonged periods outside the US without losing your permanent residency but you need to file certain paperwork in advance to secure your status.

After you relocate to USA permanently, you will be protected by state laws and jurisdictions as well as federal law. You will also be entitled to seek work in any legal entity. You may still find that some jobs are excluded and may only be filled by US citizens; this is usually a matter of security.

Making the move to relocate to USA doesn't just provide you with certain rights, you also have new responsibilities. As well as making the commitment to live legally and abide by the law, you must also agree to submit tax returns as appropriate (to both the IRS and the state authority) plus pledge not to try and change the democratic government via terrorist or illegal means.

When you complete your tax returns it is important that you declare your status correctly. Describing yourself as residing in the US on a 'non-immigrant' basis can mean you have surrendered your permanent residency.

After you relocate to USA, you may want to leave the country for holidays or to visit family still living in your country of birth. You are free to do this without jeopardising your permanent residency but you will need to ensure you have not just your passport, but also a valid permanent residency card when you are ready to re-enter the US.
