Moving to USA

Moving to USA
If you are moving to USA you will have to consider whether you need a visa to apply for entry to the country and in the vast majority of cases, the answer will be yes.

Move to USA :

Applying for a visa when you are moving to USA can be quite a time consuming task to complete so it's important that you get the paperwork submitted well ahead of your planned travel. There are no definite timescales on the length of time you could expect and if you are moving to USA, you will probably also be asked to attend an interview at either the USA Embassy or the Consulate.

However, this may not be the only requirement; when you are moving to USA immigration officials like to be certain that you are not carrying certain bugs or illnesses and that you have been vaccinated against them too.

The exact list of which vaccinations you need when you are moving to USA may be subject to change, but as a rough guide you can expect to be asked to prove you have had the following:

• Hepatitis A and B
• Influenza and influenza type b (Hib)
• Measles
• Meningococcal
• Mumps
• Pneumococcal
• Pertussis
• Polio
• Polio
• Rotavirus
• Rubella
• Tetanus and diphtheria toxoids
• Varicella

You will need to double check this list of required vaccinations if you are moving to USA to make sure you have had them. You may not need the influenza vaccinations if you are traveling outside autumn.

The examining doctor working on behalf of the immigration officials will not be permitted to simply accept your word that you have been vaccinated against the above illnesses and will in fact need to see evidence this is the case. The easiest way to do this is to contact your GP in advance and arrange for a copy of your vaccination record to be made available. Ideally you should have this ready when you attend the appointment.

If you don't have all of the above vaccinations but are still keen on moving to USA, don't rush to make an appointment with your GP. In some cases it may be possible to waive certain vaccination requirements providing there are no signs that you have contracted the conditions. Only a qualified medical professional is in a position to judge whether you are fit enough to be able to tolerate a vaccination, and will decide based on a number of different criteria including your age, past medical history and current medical condition.
