Good Moral Character - USA

good-moral-character

For every visa application into the United States of America there is much about yourself which is considered by the US Immigration Authorities before your application is approved or denied. A criteria which many people are unsure of the exact necessaries are is the ‘Good Moral Character’ - this is a vital part of the Immigration Authorities decision making and so you should understand fully what the heading means. Those who are considered not of good character will not be accepted into the United States under any visa.

Generally minors, those under 18 or in some cases 21 who are non independant will not have to undergo testing for the Good Moral Character requirement.

Security is an extremely high priority for the United States immigration services and so anybody who is undesirable will not be granted access into the country. Due to being such a terrorist target US officials are ultra strict with this requirement and have a much tighter policy than many other countries with an extremely extensive list of people who would not be classed as having a Good Moral Character.

If you have been convicted of ANY of the following your application will be absolutely denied:

  • If you have been convicted of murder
  • If you have been convicted of rape or sexual abuse
  • If you have been convicted of trafficking - people or drugs
  • If you have been convicted of being in possession of any firearms or explosives
  • If you have ever been convicted of money laundering
  • If you have ever been convicted of Blackmail or Ransoms
  • If you have been convicted of Child Pornography
  • If you have ever been convicted of Tax Evasion
  • If you have ever been convicted of Passport Fraud
  • If you have ever been convicted of Perjury
  • If you have been an habitual drunkard
  • If you have ever been convicted of given false testimonies
  • If you have ever earned a wage through gambling
  • If you have been proven to willfully refuse to support dependent(s)
The list is far more extensive but the general gist is if you have ever been in trouble with the law then you will not be accepted into the United States and trying to do so dishonestly by not disclosing any previous criminal activity will not only result in deportation and a permanent ban but also possible incarceration and heavy fines. You cannot cheat the system, all criminal records are logged on a global database and extremely easy for the immigration authorities to access so it is always better to be honest.
