It has sent a letter to British PM calling on him to ensure that this happens as per the recent announcement.
The National Indian Students and Alumni Union UK stated that the plan to make the new Graduate Visa from the 2020-21 cohort of students had was causing unrest and confusion with students that are beginning the Academic Year 2019-20. They have strongly recommended that global students having a valid Tier 4 student leave when the scheme was announced (September 10, 2019), should be eligible for this visa. In the letter they have also outlined the strong reasons for the case for consideration.
The students who have started their studies before September 2020 are out of scope for consideration causing heavy confusion among present and inward students who arrive now for the academic year starting in Sep 2019-20. It was a student body that campaigned actively for re-instating the post-study visa, and has also welcomed the government announcement.
This category of students are worried about possible discrimination, that they may face from employers, who have an option, to offer jobs to persons, with two years to remain, as against the present level of four months only. It is unfair that a set of students, are unable to experience, the first-rate work experience, on offer in the UK, even when they decide to reach UK, without the benefit of a confirmed post-study visa.
The organization has also claimed that the 42 percent ascend among the Indian students who applied to the UK universities was a result of an expectation that the offer of post-study will be re-instated fully. Additionally, in their opinion, the Indian Alumni Community plays a dynamic role and serves as a living bridge between India and the UK, strengthening the bilateral relationship.
Furthermore, the Graduate visa enables to make a further contribution to a special partnership. It will also bring many opportunities to the Indian students. After Britain ended a two-year post-study work visa in 2012, there was a major decline in the strength of Indian students.
Even the university heads have welcomed the announcement. 82 percent of Indian graduates expressed their satisfaction with the careers wherever they work, and also value the opportunity of spending some quality time in the UK after completing their degree. This visa makes it easier for them to do the work of their choice.
The NISAU UK is presently receiving queries from students of India enrolled already in UK universities and also from persons keen on applying. It is seeking, that the new rules are not discriminatory against the present batch of students.
