Census Shows Increased Migration in New Zealand

Census Shows Increased Migration in New Zealand
The median age in New Zealand has jumped two years since 2006 to bring the total to 38.0 years. People living over the age of 65 now accounts for 14.3% of the total population. The percentage of children below 15 has dropped from 21.5% to 20.4% since 2006. The country now has a diverse ethnicity, majority being European and Maori Ethnicity. The various New Zealand Visa schemes also attract lots of Asians from around the globe. The number of Asians has risen from 9% to 12% since 2006. Most of the Asians comprising the Chinese followed by the Indians, and they now occupy a quarter of Auckland. 21.5% of all immigrants come from England and a further 2.6% from Scotland.New Zealand is planning to boost its New Zealand Migrant visa schemes to attract more migrants. According to The New Zealand Herald, New Zealand must take immediate steps to boost the percentage of migration. This is essential to cope up with the existing development within the country as well as its future growth. New Zealand conducts Census once every five years; it was delayed for two years after the 2011 Christchurch earthquake. The census of 2013 shows a 5.3% growth in the population over a period of 7 years. There was double this growth during 2001 – 2006. This shows that more has to be done to attract more migrants for shaping the future of New Zealand’s economy.

The paper also predicts the toughening visa norms by UK, US and Australia would make New Zealand Visas the next good thing in the global market. According to the paper, this is the right time of New Zealand Government as well as Immigration New Zealand to take further measures to boost level of migrants. More New Zealand visas issued would mean more opportunities that arise out of various needs and investments.

More the population, more FDI into the country and hence, more job opportunities. New Zealand should work with its Immigration offices around the world, also equipping New Zealand’s Immigration consultants as well as advisers to draw in more eligible and quality migrants. It is all about laying hay while the sun is shining out there and according to the paper, not seizing this opportunity would cripple the efforts of Government for its future expansion plans. However, for those who intent to live and work in New Zealand or do business in New Zealand, the future is still bright.
