Visa form will no longer ask religion

The Indian Planning Commission has announced this week that foreign visitors to the country may no longer be asked their religion on visa forms.
The minister for state planning, Rajiv Shukla has pointed out that this question has no place in a secular country and that the question is not even asked in religious countries like the United Arab Emirates. He has asked for the question to be removed from visa forms.
Shukla has stated that a meeting has taken place that the idea has been forwarded to the ministry of home affairs to be considered. He points out that such a move will attract more people to India and make them feel more welcome.
Despite the ability to choose a “not applicable” option, the ministry had received a number of complaints about the question being too intrusive. However there is no evidence that the information was used by the government as it is self reported and inaccurate.
