Victory for Indians against UK's proposed Immigration bonds

London Bridge

The United Kingdom has abolished its plans to impose an immigration bond of £3000, sterling, for migrants from countries considered as ‘High Risk’ prolifically countries within Africa and Asia. This is considered as a huge victory for India as they have been regularly targeted as high risk and had many restrictions for them solely in debates, they have spoken out during strong protests against this particular project and taken it to the highest level of the United Kingdom’s government.

Many Indians migrate to the UK each year and contribute greatly to the countries economy, taking on professional occupations such as Doctors, Surgeons and Hospital Staff with these being the three main categories that the UK has always had a shortage of persons for so to repay the Indian nation with targeted bonds has been considered not only racist but extremely unfair. The notion of the pilot scheme, which is what it was set to be initially was that those from certain countries in Asia and Africa would have to pay a £3000 bond named a deposit and that when they departed they would be given this money back, however if they did not depart they would lose this money. It was to be an incentive to not overstay your visa allowance but the citizens and governments of the above countries see it as nothing more than an insult.

The idea of the scheme was to reduce migrants into the country who were considered likely to outstay their visa’s or work illegally, however these plans have now been dropped with no plans to resume. India is the third largest investor into the UK and the Indian Government has been outraged with the idea to only restrict their countries migrants after they have helped and contributed for many many decades to the UK.

The United Kingdom's government are set to fully waiver the visa process next January 2014 for those migrants from Romania and Bulgaria so to then impose immigration bonds on people from other countries seems highly contradictory and extremely hypocritical. If there is such an issue with mass migrants and the UK is struggling to cope then the question has to be why waiver the visa process for ALL migrants from two countries, while trying to stop ALL citizens from other countries being able to enter, unless they have the means of a £3000 cash sum?
