Travel magazines and websites worldwide consistently vote Vancouver top or very highly placed in surveys of great places to live or visit.  The well known travel company TripAdvisor recently rated the city “Top Destination” This is added to the wealth of awards the city was awarded last year. Condé Nast Traveler Magazine rated it “Top City” (2012) and the Economist Intelligence Unit awarded the title Most Liveable City (2010) and it should be noted that this title has been won eight times since 2002.  There are many awards of course – plenty of evidence of how highly Vancouver is regarded around the world.
Vancouver Wins
Canada is a vast country and yet there are not that many major concentrations of people, with sometimes great distances between the large towns and cities.  However, if you are considering migrating to this country you cannot do much better than the beautiful city of Vancouver, located on the west coast in the province of British Columbia.  It is a vibrant, attractive, prosperous, cosmopolitan and quite beautiful city and, even better, it is right by the sea! Large cruise ships can be seen in Canada Place and the city boasts a busy international airport.  You can fly directly to Vancouver from all over the world.  There is such a diversity of cultures in this city that anyone from anywhere in the world will feel welcome here.  It is no understatement to say that Vancouver has just about everything.
Geographically the city is perfectly placed with a temperate climate.  You can enjoy the sandy beaches, particularly the stunning English Bay which is literally minutes away from downtown Vancouver.  There are great stretches of green space, a wonderful example being Stanley Park which is a magnet for walkers, cyclists and those looking for examples of the great history of British Columbia.  There is an amazing display of Totem poles in the middle of the park, paying homage to the “First Nation” indigenous peoples of the Americas. There is also the outstanding Vancouver Aquarium containing a wonderful selection of sea creatures including white Beluga whales.
The attractions of the city are too many to list here and only 20 minutes away is stunning mountain scenery where you can take cable car rides, ski or just drink in the clear alpine air.  Indeed Vancouver is probably one of very few places in the world where it is possible to ski in the morning and then sail in the afternoon.  You might get lucky on the water and come across playful dolphins or, even better, pods of migrating orca whales heading down the coast from Alaska.  Back in the city you will enjoy a nightlife scene comparable to any in the world, with countless places to eat, drink and be entertained whatever your taste might happen to be.
