US Immigration Services
US citizenship and Immigration Services will start the new process for receiving and judging applications at the National Benefits center from those who have a ‘civil surgeon’ and this new process starts from 11th March 2014. After the changes are made, physicians who are seeking the ‘civil surgeon’ designation will have to file an official application at the USCIS Lockbox.

Integrating the whole of the ‘civil surgeon designation’ application, the new process will enhance the intake process of applications, improve the ability to track and manage applications of civil surgeons, encourage uniformity and consistency regarding civil surgeon-related matters that are taken by the USCIS and also improve the overall integrity and efficiency of the program.

Once these changes are centralized, the application for ‘Civil Surgeon’ designation, ‘Form I-910’ will need to be completed by the physicians who are seeking the ‘civil surgeon’ designation and they would have to pay a fee of $615 per application. The current civil surgeons will not be affected by these new changes. Potential civil surgeons are not supposed to file the fee and form prior to 11th March, 2014.

Earlier, the ‘civil surgeon’ designation process was undertaken and done as a local process at the field office or district office which office had the authority over the location of the civil surgeon’s office. Changes to the process have been detailed in USCIS policy manual under 8th volume, part C. The new process replaces the ‘civil surgeon’ designation directive that is found in the 83.4 chapter of the AFM (Adjudicator’s Field Manual).

The civil surgeons’ new policy will endorse and make clear the role, responsibilities and purpose of civil surgeons, highlights required professional qualifications that are needed for the ‘civil surgeon’ designation, the application requirements and the process of adjudication for civil surgeons.
