USA needs migrant nurses now

USA needs migrant nurse

The annual wage in the United States of America is $69,120, the climate is wonderful, the work opportunities much apparent and the people friendly and welcoming of migrants for centuries so why is there such a shortage of workers in certain fields?

For the past decade and more the world over and especially America have suffered a shortage of nurses in the state run and private hospitals. California and Florida are the two states in America that currently have the biggest shortage of nurses.

A study which was composed during the past decade beginning in the year 2000 and ending in 2010 discovered that for each retiring citizen in the US there were three new entrants of highly educated level into the working world which contradicts the severe shortages of many skilled occupations, predominantly within the financial and business sectors though the persons that the United States are crying out for the most currently, are nurses. There have been substantial job losses in the sectors that are employers of highly skilled persons such as within the healthcare system. The USA keep a Schedule A which is a list compiled of the occupations with many shortages and migrant people who possess the skills for the occupations in the list have the conditions for a Green Card waivered meaning they do not need to apply for this but they must still have a job offer from a recognised employer. This means that entry for those desired, such as nurses, is an extremely easy process.

There are many reasons for why nurses are choosing other countries above the USA for their migration destination such as better salaries, few working hours, easier Visitor Visas for family and friends, more consistent climates and lower crime levels to name a few. It is clear that the US must do much more to entice the people it so apparently needs as as it stands the above alterations are just not enough.

Recent changes were made to visa requirements such as a higher score needed on the English Language test and tougher scoring on the American History exam and things like this are not helping to encourage foreign born people who possess the relevant skills to even try to apply for a visa to the US. Studying the English language and American History is something which takes time, and can also be costly, and when there are other countries such as the UK that do not have these requirements that can make them seem a more desirable option.
