UK Increases Scholarship to Indian Students
British council has promulgated Great Britain Scholarships-India 2015 that offers £1.51 million scholarships this year. The scholarships are offered to various specializations including law and business, engineering, design, art and biosciences in 57 UK institutions in Wales, England, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

The Deputy High Commissioner of British, Bharat Joshi stated that as part of the Great Britain campaign an exhibition will be conducted in the city in which more than 60 UK universities will participate to provide information on post-graduate, undergraduate and research programs, culture and student life in the UK. And, he added that similar exhibitions will be organized in Pune, Kochi, Bengaluru, and Coimbatore.

Notably, around 21,000 Indian students are studying in the UK as per the Andrew Soper, British High Commission. Regarding student visa issue, he added that that if genuine foreign students are offered a place in genuine UK university, then they can easily get a visa without any hurdles. He stated that 84 percent of visa applications for Indians were approved successfully.

Soper added that even though education is a bit expensive in the UK, the cost associated with it is low when compared to the Australia and US. He stated that the high cost is due to the good quality of education in the UK, which is a home to four out of top six global institutions.

Focusing on Chevening scholarships provided for one year post graduate study, Soper stated that the government of UK will quadruple its funding for such scholarships for students coming from India for the next two years and making India the biggest beneficiary across the world. Further, he noted that this move is increasing the investment of £2.4 million in 2015-2016 when compared to £600,000 in 2013-14.

A press release from the British council unveiled that more than 2.50 lakh Indian students have studied in the UK since a decade.
