Uk Ancestry Visa

The UK’s immigration authorities reveal that the visa with the least amount of applicants annually is the Ancestry Visa. This is one of the most straightforward visas to obtain, it grants you a five year stay, you are able to both live and work on this visa, and it can also lead to British Citizenship, so why such a decline?

With the introducement of the Ancestry Visa this gave many foreign born people opportunities which never before would have been available to them. Like all visas into the UK, the Ancestry Visa does come with a fee but the requirements are much simpler than for any other visa. For most visas into the UK such as the Skilled Migrants Visa or Investor Visa an applicant needs to have in general, work experience, recognised skills and qualifications, sufficient financial backing and prove to be a desirable candidate for entry into the UK. For the Ancestry Visa there are minimal credentials needed in comparison, you do need to be a citizen of the Commonwealth you need to be over 17 and have one or more Grandparent who was born in the United Kingdom. You do need to show you can provide for yourself financially without needing to seek out benefits from the UK, this can be done with a prospective job offer or family sponsor.

There are times in the UK’s history where there have been mass migration, these prolifically have been in the late 1800’s / early 1900’s, during and around both world wars and most recently the recession of 2008, the years in between have been fairly quiet on the whole for people migrating out of the UK. Those who left decades ago fled to migration destinations most popular such as Australia and Canada and raised their families, their Grandchildren were the ones who could repeat the cycle by migrating back to the UK on the Ancestry Visa and the greatest time for this was during the 1980’s and 1990’s when the Grandparents of the generation did their migration during the war years of 1939 to 1945. The Grandparents of our generation were born after this time, when the UK was back to an even keel and proud to remain the Great Britain it was previous to nazi invasion. Jobs were in abundance, houses were cheap and people lived harmoniously thankful for what they had after the war, in general life was good and there was no reason to migrant and this is why we are seeing such a decline in applicants for the Ancestry Visa.
