In order to boost bilateral engagement, the United Arab Emirates has decided to open many new consular centers in India. Moreover, it will also invest $75 billion in India from the sovereign wealth fund.

This measure was announced when diplomatic sources confirmed that PM Modi will pay a visit to Abu Dhabi in February 2018.

Dr. Ahmed Albanna, UAE Ambassador said that presently, when the people from Hyderabad, Chennai, and Chandigarh, want to avail UAE visa services, they have to undertake the travel to Mumbai, Delhi or Thiruvananthapuram. This causes a lot of hardship to the people, and new cities will soon receive consular and visa centers in the country. Such an Expansion of consular service will help the Indians in a big way. UAE at present houses a large overseas Indian population.

The envoy said that PM Modi had visited the UAE in August 2015. There is a focus on consular and diplomatic contacts, and UAE stands shoulder to shoulder with India in cooperating against counter-terror activities. UAE had always denounced extremism and terrorism. It has worked with other countries to present a counter to organizations and individuals that have been blacklisted or disallowed.

UAE also has an investment plan of $75 billion from its sovereign wealth fund in India in the next decade. $ 1 billion investment has already been made in India, he added.

These funds will be used for boosting the infrastructure projects in India. Abu Dhabi Investment Authority, the UAE wealth fund, is active in the country and has bought a stake in KKR India Financial Services which is an active Indian non-banking financial company.

Terrorism is one of the considerations of UAE, and it aims to corner Qatar, which faces isolation in the Gulf Cooperation Council.

GCC has seven million professionals and Indian workers and is a major contributor of foreign remittances to India. The stability of this neighboring region is of immense interest to India.

Dr. Albanna hoped that Qatar will turn a leaf and mend its ways. Presently, UAE and Saudi Arabia are looking into forming security alliance away from GCC.
