The government has planned to make visa rules lenient so that they can allure more international students to Australia. Beginning of next year will see the crapping of strict rules for students from countries which are at high-risk of visa frauds such as China and India. The finance which the visa applicant needs to show in their bank account will be cut down making it easier for students to fulfil their Australian dream.

A fast track decision has been made by the government to streamline visa processing to 22 TAFEs and private education providers that enrol students on undergraduate, graduate or masters programs.

This is a plan of the australian government to boost the revenue the country makes from $ 15 billion this year to $ 19 billion from  last year. All education provides will benefit from these changes but it will be the most beneficial  for the training and vocational education sector, which will attract international students to the australian education system.

Peter Holden who is TAFE Director's Australia head of international engagement has embraced this move with open arms, pointing out that the last labor government did not do what they had promised for the extension of streamlined processing, and they sat on the same note for one and a half years.

Mr Holden added though that international students enrolling on sub-degree programs should also benefit from this changes, and sounded disappointed that they have been left out.

He also said that is the rules are loosened the Australian skills quality authority should be given proper resources to monitor this sector so no one can misuse these changes. The head of the International Education Association of Australia Phil Honeywood said that they would want ASQA to maintain their surveillance, if not increase it and also urged the centre that the streamlined visa processing should also be extended to reputed vocational providers who are enrolling students on certificates and diplomas.

The head of Council of Private Higher Education Adrian McCoomb said that it has been very tough under the Labor government to get approval to let private education providers complete with universities for international students. Kim Carr the opposition higher education spokesman said that the government should be very cautious.
