Embracing innovation, science, and technology is crucial to powering the economy of Australia to contribute jobs and great living standards for all Australians. The National Innovation and Science Agenda (N.I.S.A) sets a concentration on research, science, and innovation as long-term drivers of jobs, economic prosperity, and growth.

Innovation is essential to promoting the competitiveness of Australia, living standard, high wages, and fair social welfare net, although it is not the silver bullet. We need to build on the strong economic changes of the 1980s and 1990s, lift the efficiency of government and promote competition, as suggested by the response of the Government to the Harper Review.

While historically leading commodity prices have pushed the growth in our living standards over the current decade, encouraging innovation and marketing ideas will be a crucial driver of projected growth and jobs.

Innovative firms are highly competitive, more efficient to capture improved market share and further likely to improve work than their competitors.

Over the tenure of 2006-2011, 1.4 million current jobs were generated by firms aged less than 03 years old. Employment in developed businesses, in contrast, declined 400,000.

Supporting Schemes for Innovation and Talent In Australia

In Mar 2018, the Government declared two pilot schemes aimed at supporting innovation and talent in Australia. These schemes are the Supporting Innovation in South Australia and Global Talent Scheme.

Together, these intend to encourage business growth, skills transfer, and creation of job by bringing highly-skilled global talent to support foster creative businesses in Australia.

The scheme of Supporting Innovation in South Australia will promote South Australia to bring international entrepreneurs to take forward creative ideas and start seed-stage startups.

Candidates will not require capital backing, unlike the contemporary Australia Entrepreneur Visa which needs confirmed funding of minimum $200,000. Entrepreneurs who are strong in setting their business venture in Australia will become qualified to appeal for permanent residence. The South Australian Government is running with the Home Affairs Department on the implementation aspects for the visa which will be open in the 2018-19 program year.
