South Africa's new critical skills visa list of shortage occupations unveiled

South Africa’s Department of Home Affairs has published the new critical Skills Visa list which includes occupations and trades that are qualified for work permits regardless of a job offer.

Mkuseli Apleni, Director General of Home Affairs, said that they need people who contribute their skills in developing the economy and to achieve it they will lift permits to assist people to come to the nation.

Malusi Gigaba, Minister of Home Affairs Department, said that the rules were set up as per NCOP (National Council of Provinces) and he considers that the regulations were completely legitimate. 

New critical skills include certain categories such as Information Communication & Technology, Engineering, Professionals and Associate Professional, Academics and Researchers, Business, Economics and Management Studies, Life and Earth Sciences, Business Process Outsourcing (BPO), Health Professions and Related Clinical Sciences and Trades.

Critical Skills Work Visas of South Africa are issued for a period of five years. Dependents including partner and children are also issued with a visa and can stay for an equal period of main applicant.
