Some-facts-regarding-the-Changes-made-in-the-citizenship-fees-in-Canada
Canada is a top immigrant destination for persons who seek jobs and education every year. Several students immigrate from across the world to pursue their studies in the Canadian universities. Settling in a Canadian city requires paying a citizenship fee and presently, the citizenship fees for individuals below 18 years stands reduced for encouraging more people to immigrate. The Citizenship Fee has been reduced by the Government based on the subsection 5(1) of the Citizenship Act.

 What is the Citizenship Fee?

Citizenship Fee is levied on the immigrants to Canada who wish to settle as Canadian citizens. The citizenship in Canada was given to those who attain 18 of age or higher till now and minors were not given this benefit. After the amendments made in the Citizenship Fees in Canada in 2017, there is a reduction in the fees and new rules are in place allowing immigrants under 18 years of age to appeal for citizenship on for themselves. This will enable that more and more people apply for a citizenship in the country. As per Ahmed Hussen, Minister of Immigration, gaining a Canadian citizenship is a strong pillar to become a part of life in Canada.

Mention the major changes done in Citizenship Fees?

Many major changes have been carried out in the Canadian citizenship policies.

The fee schedule in the citizenship regulation has been altered by reducing the processing fees payable by minors in the subsection 5(1) of the Citizenship Act. The reduction for processing the citizenship fees has been made from 530 dollars to 100 dollars ensuring better affordability.

As per the new rule, people who have paid the citizenship fees of 530 dollars earlier than June 19th, 2017 would receive a reimbursement of 430 dollars.

 How is this measure implemented?

There is an engagement with the provinces and territories, non-profit agencies, childcare agencies, to create better awareness about the changes made. There is an added engagement with the people who help to raise the awareness and help the minors regarding the ways in which they can acquire Canadian citizenship.

This change has been welcomed by the immigrants and permanent residents of Canada.
