Snoop Dogg Visa Application Denied

A petition on-line has been signed by thousands of Australian residents, in a bid for Snoop Dogg (Calvin Broadus) to have his his visa revoked. The music artist is due to begin a tour of Australia in the next few weeks, if the petition is successful and the visa is revoked, he will have no option other than to cancel the sell out tour. The on-line petition was originally set up by the same person who last year also set up a similar petition against Tyler the creator. The petition is an appeal direct to the minister of immigration of Australia.

The activist responsible for the petition, outlines her reasons for the visa to be revoked stating Snoop Dogg is promoting hate speech towards females and derogative songs which are  demeaning to women. She goes on to highlight the fact that many of the lyrics he has written are glorifying violence and domestic abuse, at the same time many women are left feeling degraded all for entertainment value. She feels this could actually be putting a lot of women in substantial amounts of danger. The music artist's general behaviour is an outright contradiction of the steps being taken to minimize violence towards women.

Snoop Dogg has previously been faced with issues of immigration in Australia, when he was due travel to Australia as a co host on the MTV video music awards in 2007, this resulted in his visa being revoked due to the extent of his criminal record. His criminal record includes multiple drug offences and being involved in a film where girls who were under-age were given drugs. The revoked visa was reissued in 2008 after a full assessment of character. Entry into Norway, the Netherlands and Britain has also be declined in previous years. A charge of being in possession of marijuana, is still stopping him from being able to enter Norway.

If the petition can gain just 17 more signatures, it will be at the desired target of 2500. it is still unclear whether or not the Canadian federal government will be willing to adhere to the request and once again revoke Snoop Dogg's visa, meaning he will be denied entry for at least 12 months. A petition has also been set up which request that the music artist can keep his visa and travel freely to Australia, this petition is reported to have only gain two signatures.
