Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program has introduced a new Expression of Interest system to cater to the Express Entry as well as Occupations In-Demand sub-categories. The New EOI system offers many advantages in comparison to the previous model.

Furthermore, this move to the EOI system brings to halt the previous model based on the timing of arrival. Saskatchewan followed this model for these International Skilled Worker sub-categories. The effect was that several qualified applicants could not submit their applications on time.

The Express Entry permits Saskatchewan to choose eligible immigration candidates in the EE System of the Federal government. It can issue an invitation to them for applying to get the provincial nomination. The Occupations In-Demand sub-category caters to all eligible skilled professionals who have the specific work experience in an in-demand occupation of Saskatchewan.

Strong economic results

Moreover, shifting to the EOI system will permit the provincial nominee program, (SINP) to target the candidates likely to succeed in a better way, in the labor market of Saskatchewan. The goal of the  system is ensuring a better economic outcome and long-term retention of the candidates who get ITA.

Under this system, all interested candidates first register a profile with the SINP. They get a ranking score that is based on the answers concerning education, work experience, and proficiency in English/French, besides other factors.

The candidates who score 60 points in assessment grid, and also successfully meet other eligibility requirements, enter a pool of candidates for the Express Entry and Occupations In-Demand sub-category. Top and selected candidates receive the invitation for applying to seek the provincial nomination in regular draws.

Special emphasis on human capital features

There is a special emphasis on human capital features of a candidate. All Canadian provinces employ a merit-based EOI approach for selecting candidates. The EOI-based Express Entry system of the federal government points out such exercise. It has replaced the model based on the timing of arrival in 2015. Additionally, it selects the candidates with high ranks based on the Comprehensive Ranking System.

Deep pool of candidates

The EOI system of Saskatchewan will provide more opportunities to people who wish to compete in seeking the provincial nomination by these sub-categories. These are, among the few in the country, which do not need a job offer to get the consideration.

In the previous approach, the program accepted only limited applications, but now anyone meeting all the eligibility norms for the sub-categories can compete seeking the provincial nomination.

The major benefit of Saskatchewan is Opening this selection process to all eligible candidates.

When the regular draws happen in place of occasional openings, many candidates will be in a position to apply.

Helpful to candidates

This will help could candidates with low CRS scores also. Saskatchewan’s EE sub-category has not fixed a minimum CRS score norm and hence all eligible for the EE pool can submit the EOI.

Any provincial nomination gets additional 600 CRS points, which serve as a guarantee to get an Invitation to apply seeking permanent residence not considering their first CRS score.

Draws focused on occupations

One more advantage of this EOI system is that the SINP may have some draws linked to specific occupations. The aim is to select nominees who have a positive employment outlook in Saskatchewan.  Such candidates will need specific work experience in one of 33 in-demand occupations of Saskatchewan to be eligible for any of the two sub-categories.

Candidates who have a low ranking score, but also have work experience in a targeted occupation can obtain an Invitation to Apply for a provincial nomination from Saskatchewan in these draws.

60 days to submit application

Finally another feature of the EOI system is that the candidates who get an ITA through the SINP for a provincial nomination will get 60 days for submitting their application after receiving the ITA. This is a better and user-friendly feature than in the past which was open only for a few hours.

Candidates must prepare for an ITA by collecting the necessary documents in advance. Through this they will not miss the deadline of application.
