December 2013, 13
EMAIL  Print A+

The Canadian government and residents have always been enthusiastic in accepting people from overseas to migrate to Canada, Over  the last several years there has been a tremendous amount of migrants setting up home and enjoying prosperous new lives in the country, whilst also contributing widely to the rise in economy.

Canada is known for being a welcoming friendly country, which offers stability and security to a vast number migrants every year. The majority of the Canadian residents appreciate the help to the economy that comes with people from overseas migrating to or visiting Canada. There are a large number of Canadian born citizens who are under the belief that the increasing number of migrants applying for visas to bring their parents and grandparents to also migrate, is going to become too much of a burden on the economy.

The Canadian government have formulated massive steps to decrease the huge amount of visa applications which have caused quite a delay in processing. Significant changes have recently been made in order to ensure an applicant being sponsored has more than enough financial capital, so they can be supported by the sponsor on a more definite basis. In order to avoid a future backlog of applications occurring the government are enforcing a cap on how many applications can be issued each year. From 2014 the total mount of visa applications that can be applied for will be a maximum of 5,000. The alterations to the previous application process will have clear results that it is an improvement, however the changes will also be noticeable to the financial economy as they are funded by the tax payer.

The backlog has reached over 160,000 parents and grandparents who have confirmed sponsorship and are anticipating the outcome of the application. A large percentage of Canadian born citizens still express great warmth to all residents. Studies show that although they are in support of a spouse and or child coming over to live with their respective relative, they are not all that supportive towards the possibility of yet more parents and grandparents migrating to set up home in Canada.

One of the most reoccurring answers provided as to why some citizens are not supportive of parents and grandparents migrating, was that they bring an abundance of strain upon the health care system, there is also a lot of concern that taxpayers will have to foot the bill.
