Recent data announced by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) reveals that the population of Indians in Australia increased by 30% between 2016 and 2018. In June 2016, Indians living in Australia was 455,389, as per Census 2016. This number increased to 592,000 by June 2018, reveals the preliminary calculations by the ABS.

Indians have now become the 3rd biggest community in Australia, moving New Zealand born to the next place. The population of Indians constitutes 2.4 percent of the Australian population, and the average age of Indian migrants is 34 years, the equivalent as that of residents born in Australia.

Indians Received High Number of Australia PR Visas

Indians have been the biggest migrants source to Australia since 2016. In 2016 and 2017, Australia announced entirely 183,608 PR visas. In those 38,854 PR visas were allotted to Indians. In 2017-2018, the PR visas number announced by Australia was 162,417, and the visas given to Indians was 33,310.

The Indian students' number in Australia also reached a 07-year high in the year 2018. As per the data, approximately 70,000 students were studying in universities & colleges in Australia in the month of Nov 2017.

The migrants' population was higher than 07 million in Australia as in the month of June 2018. In other words, foreign-born residents constituted higher than 29% of the population. The biggest group of foreign-born residents in Australia remains to be the England-born diaspora. The following is the Chinese, with higher than 651000 China-born residents residing in the nation.

Along with the population of migrants, the languages of India have also developed in Australia. The first language of India spoken at home in Australia is Hindi, with speakers 159,652. The following is Punjabi, with speakers 132,496. Those 02 languages are among the topmost 10 languages spoken in Australia. The other languages of India that observed a notable increase in the speakers' number in Australia comprise Tamil, Bengali, Malayalam, Gujarati, Telugu.
