The recent migration numbers from the Home Affairs Department show a surge in the regional visas that being awarded to migrants moving to South Australia.

They will be substituted by the Skilled Work (subclass 491) Regional visa and Skilled Employer-Sponsored (subclass 494) Regional visa. Both will have a pathway to Australia PR for migrants who live in the regional areas for minimum three years.

While the government is encouraging higher migrants to the regions for temporary stays, in March 2019 it drops the overall permanent level of migration from 190,000 positions to cap it at 160,000 positions for the following four years.

The new skilled migration program beginning in November also gives 25,000 largely regional work visas to be granted at the demand of states.
