Canada Announces People have Joined the CanadianFamily
The Citizenship and Immigration minister of Canada, Chris Alexander, revealed that over 200,000 individuals have integrated to the Canadian society till date. He mentioned that the backlog rate of citizenship has been lessened by 13 % since June and the attainments were direct outcomes of the government’s recent reforms to processing of citizenship applications.

Notably, 50,000 individuals, representing 172% rise over the same period last year, have become citizens after implementing a new streamlined decision making process on 1 August 2014, he noted.

He stated that recent changes permitted decision-making authorities to progress the backlog rate of non-routine cases, which includes the one with residency questions as well. Around half of the cases in which a residency questionnaire (RQ) was granted before November 2013 have been cleared up after applicants have received their citizenship. More than thousand applicants who had been granted RQs will take up their tests very soon. The files will be assessed by a number of decision makers provided that the applicants need to demonstrate that they satisfy the requirements.

The ceremony, which was attended by the minister, was hosted by the Tzu Chi Foundation in which over 100 people took the oath of citizenship. This is one among the 85 ceremonies held throughout the country at the time of Citizenship Week 2014.

Alexander added that the government’s recent amendments to the Citizenship Act help more people to integrate to the Canadian family sooner. He emphasized that the efforts made by the government have brought down the backlog rate, enhanced processing times and welcomed people to join the Canadian family.
