Recent Express Entry draw had lowest CRS requirement ever!
Canada’s immigration selection process, the Express Entry system, continuously expands in leaps and bounds as the most recent draw, which occurred on 8th February 2017, had the lowest CRS (Comprehensive Ranking System) point requisite of all time. Candidates having 447 CRS points, or more, were sent an ITA or Invitation to Apply, for permanent residency. Furthermore, this had been the biggest draw ever; with a total number of 3,664 ITAs being issued.

Additionally, this recent draw has also been the first ever such draw under which applicants with CRS scores even under 450, were provided with ITAs. The threshold of 450-points was viewed by numerous stakeholders as a significant one, as previously… this had been the lowest threshold of any draw right since the first launch of Express Entry, over 2 years ago.

As per the current trends in the Express Entry system, it is indicated that the requirement for CRS points might continue to decline in the forthcoming draws. Although there can be no way one can predict exactly how future draws might be, representatives from IRCC (Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship)have mentioned that ‘It can be expected that in general, the low score for rounds will decline.’

Truly, this prediction is in conjunction with the improvements made to the Express Entry scheme in November 2016. One of the changes made back then was the cutback in the number of awarded CRS points for a qualifying employment offer, from 600 points right down to 50 or 200 points, based on the position given.

As a result, IRCC had predicted that ‘A reduction of points to candidates with arranged employment means the CRS cut-off will decline,’ adding that that it wanted to ‘balance the Comprehensive Ranking System to put greater weight on human capital, skills and experience.’

Candidates in the Express Entry pool, as well as individuals thinking of creating an Express Entry profile, can use the new and improved CRS Calculator to find out what their score would be under the new points system.
