Quebec Immigration
The Government of Quebec has determined to spend CAD 70 million for immigrants in Quebec to have greater access to French course. The Government believes that understanding French will support immigrants to adapt better to the society of Quebec, Quebec province principally being a French-speaking.

IRCC’s internal report published recently says that if you do not understand the official Canadian languages, it is the most significant barrier for immigrants that stop them from integrating well to the society of Canada. Quebec Immigration Minister, Simon Jolin-Barrette, said though Quebec previously provided free French lessons to immigrants who resided in the Quebec province for less than 5 years, it was not enough.

Quebec Government’s Latest Plans on French Courses

Below the recent plan, all newcomers in Quebec will have a path to full-time French classes, ignoring the point of how long they have resided in Quebec. The province will produce 300 new classes and recruit 80 more teachers. The courses will be provided to temporary international workers, students, along with their spouses. As per the minister, it is assumed that approximately 4,500 more newcomers will be taking free French classes in a year.

Furthermore, the Government of Quebec would give financial support to newcomers who take French classes. From 1 July 2019 onwards, immigrants who have registered in French full-time courses will receive $185 per week, related to $141 earlier.

The Government of Quebec will also give subsidy for the charges of daycare to immigrant parents who participate in the French lessons. The allowance for parents attending part-time French classes will be grown from CAD 7 to CAD 9 per day, per child. The allowance for parents attending full-time courses will continue the same at CAD 25 per day, per child.

The Quebec immigration system has presently undergone several significant changes. In the previous month, the Government of Quebec passed a bill that provide more power for the Government over the qualification factors for Quebec Immigration.
