Applicants who enroll in the Express Entry pool may find themselves on the getting end of an invitation to apply for a nomination of the province without even trying thanks to specific immigration streams in Alberta, Ontario, and Nova Scotia.

These streams have currently been utilized to search the Express Entry pool for applicants who satisfy the preferred criteria such as work experience in a selected profession. Those recognized are informed of the province’s interest and invited to appeal for a provincial nomination for PR in that province.

These pathways of immigration are sometimes mentioned as “passive” streams because applicants can only appeal after being selected by one of these searches.

Express Entry applicants who appeal for and get a provincial nomination are granted a further 600 points toward their CRS  score and are efficiently moved to the front of the line for an ITA for Canadian PR in the following Invitation round of Express Entry.

Provincial streams of immigration that are utilized to search the Express Entry pool are:

·         Alberta Express Entry Stream

Nova Scotia

·         Labour Market Priorities Stream

·         French-Speaking Skilled Worker Stream

·         Human Capital Priorities Stream

·         Skilled Trades Stream

To be invited to appeal for a provincial nomination by one of these streams, immigration applicants must initially enter a profile in the pool of Express Entry.

Nova Scotia

The Nova Scotia Nominee Program (N.S.N.P) has attended two searches by this stream since its creation in Aug 2018, one for early childhood assistants and educators and another on Jan 24 that focused on financial accountants and auditors.

Express Entry Stream- Alberta, which was launched last year, is also utilized to search the pool of Express Entry for applicants who match the province’s eligibility criteria.

These cover a CRS score of minimum 300 and the condition that the Express Entry applicant need to be working in a profession that promotes Alberta’s economic growth and diversification.

Of Ontario’s 03 Express Entry-associated streams, the Human Capital Priorities Stream has called the most applicants so far in the year 2019.

The stream announced 1,493 NOIs in its latest draw conducted on Jan 14 to Express Entry applicants with CRS scores varying from 439 to 448.

Human Capital Priorities Stream explorations are restricted to Canadian Experience Class and Federal Skilled Worker Class applicants who satisfy its federal and provincial eligibility criteria.
