Canadian Express Entry Decreases again for March 1 Draw
Canada’s latest federal Express Entry draw on March 1st sees a total of 3,884 candidates receiving an ITA.  The highest number of candidates issued with an ITA (Invitation to Apply) for Canadian Permanent Residency in any of the roughly monthly draws. It also sees a decrease again in the threshold of CRS (Comprehensive Ranking System) points for applicants to be drawn from the pool.  Candidates with 434 points or above who were in the Express Entry pool were issued with an Invitation to Apply on March 1st.

Qualified and skilled candidates and those with job offers for positions in Canada can follow the Express Entry route to faster immigration to Canada. Those who meet the criteria complete an Express Entry application and are awarded Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) points based on their eligibility, skills, language, age and education.  Applicants remain in an Express Entry pool and when the draw is made a number of candidates are chosen from the pool based on the threshold of points and the quota set. Those above the threshold receive an ITA for Permanent Residency. These candidates then have a number of weeks to submit a full and detailed application for Permanent Residency in Canada.

The recent decrease in the number of CRS points required to be chosen from the Express Entry pool means that candidates do not necessarily require the additional points given for a Canadian job offer in order to gain sufficient points to be above the threshold. It means that candidates with, for example, a Bachelors degree, excellent English language ability and an adequate level of work experience in or outside of Canada stand a good chance of being Invited to Apply.

The frequency of draws has also increased recently. These changes come after the Express Entry system was revised in November 2016. The changes are being received positively by applicants, employers, and communities across Canada. The expectation is that the number of CRS points required may well continue to decrease making it easier for eligible individuals to travel to and gain residency in Canada. Canada operates a number of immigration schemes federally and provincially, the provincial schemes usually tying into the federal. The variety of streams and routes to immigrate mean there are options for families, graduates, skilled and semi-skilled workers to apply.
