Doctors, Engineers to Get into Canadian Job Market
Employment Minister of Canada, Pierre Poilievre, lately promulgated in a statement that its government funds to fast-track the time between licensing and arrival for overseas trained doctors and engineers. Medical Council of Canada and Engineers have planned to put forth new programs with good funding options from the Federal Government that would help globally trained doctors and engineers their qualifications and skills recognized.

Proponents further added that its government would soon match the Canadian Engineers funding of 778,000 dollars for the expansion of Online Competency Assessment System, an online tool that standardizes the valid work experiment prerequisites to become an approved engineer across the nation.

The new evaluation system is also set to welcome around 5,000 engineers who have a strong desire to work in the province and fulfill the work experience prerequisites. One of the well-known Engineers Canada CEO, Kim Allen noted in a statement that the both the employers and applicants willing to work in the province for becoming licensed need to possess the valid work experience.

In addition to this, Medical Council of Canada will also soon receive 6.7 million dollars to develop an online tool that would ease the examination process for qualified physicians from around 80 nations.

Key responsibilities that are to be undertaken by the Engineers Canada with the federal government funding is coordinated in the creation of the online system, support the 12 territorial and provincial engineering, regulatory bodies and to set up a national board to oversee its development  during the implementation of the project.

All the newcomers who are planning to get licensed has to face costs related to credential assessment and language, lost income opportunities, exam fees, and endless bureaucracy among provincially-mandated dictatorial bodies, stated Minister Poilievre.

Currently, there are around 500 regulatory bodies in the province and within a single profession, there can be several numbers of controllers with different policies, by scopes of practice, occupational standards, laws and minimum requirements.

As per the earlier study of TD Bank if the migrant skilled professionals were employed at the similar level as non-immigrant workers, on an average around 370,000 more individuals would be working in the province.

Engineers Canada’s Competency-Based Assessment Project has newly developed a national standard that is helpful to measure the work experience and qualifications of an applicant and to check whether they meet the minimum eligibility criteria.

Under the new system, a prospective applicant must be able to demonstrate that they possess few capabilities and skills to work in the province. Furthermore, the new system does not require any Canadian experience to get a license. Few of the respective sources of the nation noted in a statement that a prospective applicant has to possess minimum of seven competencies to pass the assessment such as applying engineering knowledge, communicating engineering information, managing engineering activities, maintaining and enhancing engineering knowledge and skills, technology or equipment, methods and techniques, using engineering tools and protecting the public interest. For this, each applicant has to submit 21 written documents of which three for competency.

After which the respective professional engineers will assess each document by making use of structured process and by taking into account all the additional factors. Allen anticipates that it takes around 18 months to finish the online evaluation system’s development and for its execution in the 12 territorial and provincial regulatory bodies.
