Ontario's Tech Draw: Issues 1,623 ITAs to Candidates for Canada PR

Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program
Ontario attended its initial Tech Draw on 12 July 2019, inviting 1,623 Express Entry applicants with qualified work experience to appeal for a provincial nomination for Canadian PR.

Those invited in the 12 July 2019 draw had Express Entry CRS scores varying from 439 to 459 and produced their Express Entry profiles within 12 July 2018, to 12 July 2019.

The Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (O.I.N.P) published earlier in this month that it would start holding Tech Draws to satisfy the growing labour requirements of the Ontario province’s tech sector.

Ontario is home to numerous Canadian major tech hubs, prominently those in the cities of Ottawa, Toronto, and Waterloo. Tech firms in Toronto alone produced higher-tech jobs than the San Francisco Bay area in 2017, as per the CBRE Group.

Initial Step: Register in Express Entry Pool

To be counted for a Tech Draw invitation, applicants must have a suitable profile enrolled in the Express Entry pool. The profile must be below the Canadian Experience Class or Federal Skilled Worker Class, both of which are controlled by the Canadian Express Entry system.

All applicants in the Express Entry pool are given a score below the CRS that depends on factors such as age, educational details, proficient work experience, and knowledge in French or English.

Only once this year have Canadian Experience Class and Federal Skilled Worker Class applicants with CRS scores of 439 executed the cut-off in an Express Entry draw.

Ontario Tech Draw Process

O.I.N.P Tech Draws are attained by the province’s stream Human Capital Priorities, which enables the O.I.N.P to search the Canadian Express Entry pool for applicants who satisfy the stream’s qualification requirements.

An employment offer is not mandatory to be suitable for the Stream Human Capital Priorities.

Tech Draws search specially for Express Entry applicants who satisy the Human Capital Priorities’s eligibility conditions and have minimum one year full-time paid work experience in one of the below six tech professions:

  • Computer and information systems managers (NOC 0213)
  • Database analysts and data administrators (NOC 2172)
  • Web designers and developers (NOC 2175)
  • Computer engineers (NOC 2147)
  • Computer programmers and interactive media developers (NOC 2174)
  • Software engineers and designers (NOC 2173)
