With a focus on Job Creation, Ontario Province has improved the Employment opportunities and has increased it by 34,700 during September. This reflects a job gain for the third consecutive month mainly in wholesale, retail trade, and manufacturing. As a result, the rate of unemployment declined to 5.6%.

The figure for the Employment in Ontario at present is 169,500 for the year. The unemployment rate of the province is below the national average, for 30th month consecutively.

As per the 2017-18 First Quarter report, Ontario can balance the budget in this year. It is on the track to invest in the programs and services which are looked forward to by the people/families.

As a result of this economic momentum, Ontario aims to create more opportunities and introduce measures for the security of workers. There would be Fair Workplaces and Better Jobs around. The measures planned are increasing the minimum wage, equal wages to part-time workers compared to full-time workers, paid sick days, and quick enforcement of employment laws.

These measures will support the workers, create jobs, and help in the growth of the economy.

  • On a yearly basis, employment increased in Muskoka-Kawarthas by 11.1 %, Hamilton-Niagara Peninsula 6.3 % and Kitchener-Waterloo-Barrie 6.0 %
  • In the last three years, real GDP growth of Ontario’s has surpassed that of all G7 countries included.
  • On a yearly basis, retail sales increased by 6.8 % over the first seven months in 2017, in comparison to the same period in 2016.
  • On a yearly basis, wholesale trade increased by 9.1% over the first seven months in 2017, in comparison to the same period in 2016.
  • Employment is forecast to increase by 94,000 net new jobs in 2017.
