Ontario Creates Additional 31,100 Jobs During August

With its strong policy of focusing on supporting Job Creation, and as a proactive measure of helping people of the Province, Ontario is seeing great and positive results. The Employment numbers in Ontario, increased by 31,100, during August 2017 to make it, the second month, in job growth. This also resulted in the 5.7% fall in the unemployment rate fell which is the lowest since Jan 2001.

Employment in Ontario registered 107,200 in January-August period of 2017, compared to the same months in 2016. The unemployment rate of the province is below the national average for the past 29 months consecutively.

This was possible due to the impressive showing in insurance, finance, real estate, information, rentals, and culture, warehousing, transportation, and recreation sectors.

As per the release of 2017-18 Finances for First Quarter, Ontario is set to balance the budget in the present year. It will have resources to make investments in the various programs and services meant for providing relief to people and families.

On the basis of this healthy momentum in economics, Ontario has decided to act and create more opportunities for workers. There is a focus on security also. This will result in Fair Working places and quality Jobs. The package also covers increasing the minimum wage, payment of same wage per hour to the part-time workers as to full-time workers, the introduction of paid sick days to benefit each worker and effective enforcement of laws in the employment sector.

The government has a plan to supporting workers and business establishments located in Ontario and create more create jobs. This will help to set the growth in the economy and help the people in a big way.


There is a yearly increase in employment in many economic regions of the province, like 11.8% in Muskoka-Kawarthas (), (6.5% in Kitchener- Waterloo-Barrie and 6.4% in Hamilton-Niagara Peninsula.

Similarly, the retail sales grew by 7.1 % in the first half of 2017, in comparison with the same period in 2016. The wholesale trade grew by 9.2 % in the first half of 2017, in comparison with the same period in 2016.

The number of jobs is set to touch 94,000(net) in 2017 in comparison with 76,400 net-new jobs in 2016. The government is working hard to benefit from the better performance and aims to continue the positive momentum in employment growth seen presently, and more efforts will be put in. A positive economic environment will be created to allow the private sector to create more jobs that for a desirable economic growth in the future.
