New Zealand Visas Decline

Immigration New Zealand issues all types of New Zealand visas to migrants who wish to live, study work or do business with the country. Some migrants choose to overstay their visas and fall into trouble with the authorities. This is mainly due to the lack of understanding the immigration rules and procedures, which can be fixed if a New Zealand visa adviser or consultant is approached. But, the latest figures shows the immigration department that there is a considerable reduction in the numbers of people who choose to overstay in New Zealand.

The latest data shows that, there are only 13,151 people overstaying on New Zealand visas this year. According to the previous records, this figure is supposed to be the lowest recorded over a century. In 2005, there were over 20,000 overstaying, which is nothing, but an increase in 33% compared to this year. The figures also show that, there has been a 6.3% decline while compared to the last year.

The rate of overstaying can be estimated by comparing the numbers of temporary arrival and the over stayers. This rate, which is often expressed in percentages, was found to be 0.05%, which means five people out of 10,000. Michael Woodhouse, New Zealand Immigration minister also stated that, while the deportation costs stood at $3 Million during 2005-2006, the costs have almost reduced to half in 2012-2013, coming only up to $1.53 Million. This would also mean that the immigration department was able to save a great deal of taxpayers’ hard earned cash. He also explained that better adaptation of technology and understanding between international agencies, helps in reducing the number of people who doesn’t meet most of the criteria to enter New Zealand.

According to the change in policies, the government now persuades the over stayers to find solutions to existing commitments while also taking care of the costs required for their departure. This has seen a lot of over stayers leaving the country on voluntary basis, else they could face a ban or further sanctions if they wish up on to return. For those who overstay in their New Zealand Visas and indulge in any criminal activities, the removal priority will be very high. There are also many other circumstances which will force one to stay back even after their visa expires, such as hunting for a job or to be together with family, such people will be classified as low risk.

The main priority of Immigration New Zealand is to reduce the number of high-risk over stayers and prevent such people from boarding to New Zealand. All New Zealand Visa Consultants, both on-shore and offshore are regularly notified about the changes in policies. Getting a New Zealand Visa consultant for your New Zealand work visa, business or student visa will be the only wise to do if you wish to travel to New Zealand.
