Statistics New Zealand has released a few interesting facts for the future spanning 20 years.

Based on the figures, it is estimated that the New Zealanders of Asian roots are most likely to increase, with approximately 1.21 million making the country their home. Besides, the population of Maoris will also increase, to above one million by that time.

The population of European or Other ethnic groups will touch 4.0 million in 2038 as against the figure of 3.3 million witnessed in 2013. The share of this group will decline from 75 % of the population in New Zealand (in 2013) to 66 % in 2038.

It is estimated that the population of New Zealand will be 6.3 million in 2038.

This was the result of opening the gates, and allowing the people in the country in the words of Duncan Garner, Host Radio and Television said. Paul Spoonley, Professor of Sociology, Massey University, said that there was a need to take charge of the immigration policy, and lead the immigrants to the regions which require them most. The destination of immigrants is important as the statistics show New Zealand is growing fast. The numbers arriving are huge and the country has taken twice the number of immigrants compared to Australia and three times the number of immigrants reaching the UK. It is indeed a high figure he added.

As per Statistics NZ analysis, there is a prediction of growth for all four ethnic groups, but high birth rates and increased migration will lead to high rate of population growth for Asian, Maori, and Pacific segments.

Ashburton is an example of a place which is adjusting well with increased population, and its Mayor Donna Favel expressed that the town would appear featureless without the presence of migrants. They were needed by employers looking for filling up positions in teaching, health, transportation, and agricultural sectors she added. In fact, they are struggling to get employees. There was a lack of local people for employment and numerous jobs were available in the district. Major employers expressed that around 30 percent of their staff were immigrants she concluded.
