New US Immigration Policy Will Benefit Skilled Indian Professionals

Indian professionals with specific skills will be the greatest recipients of US President recommended immigration policy, told K.V. Kumar, CEO, and chairman, Indian American International Chamber of Commerce (I.A.I.C.C). The I.A.I.C.C represents over 06 lakh small and medium Indian-origin or Indian companies around the world.

He emphasized that the recommended immigration scheme, which will concentrate on a system of points-based that prefers the immigrants’ admission with specific employment and education qualifications, would definitely benefit Indian professionals who are exploring U.S. visas/green cards.

Motto of the New US Immigration Proposal

It aims to hold 57% skill-based green cards for immigrants. That’s over a quadruple jump from the current 12%. A huge Indian population, who are presently on H-1B visas is going to profit from it, told Mr. Kumar who has worked with all Presidents of U.S. beginning with Ronald Reagan to Mr. Donald Trump.

Though family visas may be lowered to 33 percent from the existing 66 percent now, below the current scheme, visa processing for parents and spouses will be done at a quick pace.

Depends on his communication with the S.M.B (small & medium business) community, Mr. Kumar further stated, the business community of India in the U.S. was very upbeat about the recommended changes as it would improve the scope for skill transfer within the U.S. and India.

According to the fact tank which is Washington DC-based, Pew Research Center, during financial 2017, some 748,746 individuals were given family-based PR in the U.S. below the employment-based immigration (12 Percent) 1,37,855 individuals were granted residency, 1,20,356 came below refugees (11 Percent), below others (6 Percent) came 68,618 parolees and  asylees and another 51,592 people were given PR below diversity (5 percent).

These latest proposals, if accepted by the Congress, have the possibility to alter the immigration landscape of the USA dramatically. It is promoting that skills, talent, and expertise will be received preference over the family.
