New rules to migrating with pets
When you make the decision to migrate there are certain aspect of life in your native country that you have to say good bye too. One of the toughest decisions people can face about migration is to do with their pets, do they leave them in their current homeland or do they transport them thousands of miles away and bring them to the migration destination? People can love their pets almost as much as they love their children and they can be and generally are a part of the family. But there’s a huge question which many pet owners face and that is will travelling so far be good for the pet, if they are aged or had health problems will they even survive the journey? Do you have to be cruel to be kind, or will you end up making a decision that you will ultimately regret? An extremely new rule has just been announced in the United States of America and that is that unless you are entering Hawaii quarantine for pets arriving into the USA from abroad there is no quarantine for.

This will be welcomed greatly by people whose major con to bringing their pets will have been that they’d not only face a long flight and much transportation but then be locked up in a kennel, sometimes for a period of 10 or 12 weeks and what effect this would have on the animal, as well as the owner. There are still however rules and regulations which cannot change, and are put in place to protect the people and animals already in the US. These are to do with health requirements.

You need an official International Health Certificate, this must be obtain from your vet within 10 days of your departure, this is needed for your chosen airline predominantly as verification that your pet is perfectly healthy and well and fit to fly. You will also need a Rabies Vaccination and Certificate. Ordinarily, a vaccination and certificate must be obtained no longer than 30 days prior to entry. Until the very recent news regarding quarantine, after the vaccination your pet would then face confinement for around 30 days but this is now scrapped so long as your animal is fully certified to be up to date with all inoculations and vaccinations. If upon arrival it is discovered that you do not have the correct documentation for your pet then this pet will be confiscated and can result in the animal being destroyed with fairly immediate effect.
