EMAIL  Print A+
The new, Australian 457 visa rules which are due to be in effect from January 2017 are expected to impact the immigrants residing in the southern part of Australia with their children. Immigrants with 457 visa will be affected majorly due to newly introduced tuition fee for elementary education.

The 457 visa is issued to immigrants sponsored by an Australian business, under ordinary business sponsorship or under a labor agreement with the Immigration Department. The validity of the visa is for four years.

The annual tuition fee payable by 457 visa holders, 2017 onwards will be Australian dollar 5100 for every primary school student and Australian dollar 6100 for every high school child.

The contribution fees will be applicable initially to the eldest child of the family, whilst the fee for every sibling will be discounted by ten percent. The parents/guardians can choose to make the payment in one installment or multiple; per semester or per term.

The amount for the contribution will depend on the earnings of the 457 visa holders. In case the gross annual income of the visa holder is less than $57000, no contribution fee will be taken from them.

Also a means-test will be done to determine that a family, with a child at school, do not have to pay the entire contribution rate until their gross family income is or above $77000.

PR holders will be exempted from making the contributions. The PR holders have to produce a proof to verify their permanent residence status to the Department of Immigration.

During the initial 12 months, the contribution fee will only be applicable to the immigrants arriving in the Southern part of Australia from 1st January onwards; however those who arrived in the southern part before 1st January will be exempted from it.

From 1st January 2018 onwards the contribution fee will be paid by all 457 visa holders residing in the Southern Australia.
