The Liberals has increased the limit on the applications the Canadian government would accept for the popular PGP program.

The immigration minister has announced that this year and every year 10,000 applications would be accepted; the numbers have been increased from 5,000.

The government had previously promised to increase the applications limit. The Canada’s PGP program is among the most favorable immigration streams, but it was closed down due to the problems with the program.

The program was reopened, and many changes were made to it, including decision was taken on the money an individual requires before sponsoring their parent or grandparent and how lengthy that support should be guaranteed.

The Liberals had pledged to increase the limit in the previous election campaign.  They told that the step would be taken in the new year when rather than decreasing the intake of fresh applications at 5,000 they accepted more than 14,000 applications.

The initial 10,000 completed files would be processed on top of those already in the system.

As per the data on the website of Immigration Department, they are still working through the files that they had received before 4th November 2011.

The Ministerial Instructions for the latest limit says that these instructions contribute to the strategy of facilitating the family reunification and fulfill the Canada Government’s commitment of increasing the latest application intake to around 10,000 applications yearly.

While the instructions change the limit, they had not changed the other elements of the program that includes the application would be processed on the basis of first come first serve.

This decision has created a profitable business for couriers as they are charging around hundreds of dollars to guarantee that the application comes first in the queue.

After many requests from the public previously this year, Mc Callum had informed that he will look into any reforms can be made in the years to come but noted that the increased limit will ease some of the crisis.

In the year 2014, the previous year for which complete statistics are available, just more than 18,000 people were granted entry into Canada under this program.

The government would publish a document by 1st November, and it would reveal that this year how many people had been granted entry into Canada under this program.
