Liberals Reveal 2018 Immigration Plan which Helps Refugees and Economy

Canada has an immigration system which allows several new immigrants inside the country.  Their admission is subjected to factors like economic class, a reunification of family or on humanitarian grounds.

The Liberal government is finalizing the immigration plan, for the year 2018 which seeks to answer the global migration crisis, a flow in illegal immigrants and constant gaps of labor in the country.

Immigration Minister Ahmed Hussen held countrywide consultations and is preparing the annual immigration plan to determine their levels in the House of Commons.

While the target is being set for newcomers the government aims to attract the best professionals and talents, reunite the families and also offer refuge to displaced people.

Canada has always believed in an immigration system based on sympathy competence and opportunity for all. It also protects the safety, health, and security of the countrymen.

Canada has a thoughtful and responsible immigration system and it has an approach that considers the need for more immigrants without foregoing its fiscal responsibilities.

Michelle Rempel, a Conservative Immigration Critic has stated that the government has failed to develop a good strategy to fill the labor gaps in specific sectors and also in less populated far-off parts of the nation. The strategy must be to address the migration crisis and fill the labor gaps in the country.

She went on to add that there were major questions on the way the government is treating the people in areas of high unemployment.

There should be a new method in settling the immigrants in major urban areas and to boost immigration in areas of demand.

Rempel stated that Canada must adopt an immigration plan considering the change in context after the realities of a global crisis. The refugees must be integrated properly and become effective members among the workers.

The system must work in the changed scenario.

Illegal Asylum seekers who crossed into Canada were not included in the Level Plan.

The plan for 2017 was for 300,000 immigrants and boosted the economic class of skilled workers, businessmen, and caregivers. It sought an increase in the family, spouses, partners, and children, besides parents and grandparents.

Jenny Kwan, another Immigration critic urged the government to be ambitious with its plan, as immigration was ideal to make up for an aging population and fill major labor shortages and gaps. A balanced and diverse group of immigrants must be brought he added.

There was a need of different labor skills in Canada, and the immigration policy must reflect it.

Also, there must be no cap on privately sponsored refugees.

Janet Dench, Executive Director, Canadian Council for Refugees, stated that the country had the capacity and could bring 20,000 more persons every year as there are more than a million refugees identified by UNHCR. There must be a sustained and strong commitment for refugees than what is shown at present.

The Advisory Council on Economic Growth of the government made a recommendation that Canada must increase its present immigration level to 450,000 before 2021 in order to benefit the economy and provide answers for an aging population compounded with a very low rate of birth.

Patrick Snider, of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce, stated that high immigration level boosts competitiveness, and increases the business potential. The government must attract fresh talent with right skills for heavily demanded jobs.  The present ranking system has a focus on education and technical specifications and is not flexible towards people with intelligence, knowledge, training, and drive.

The overall numbers must reflect the direct benefits to the economy how much Canada can afford to properly resettle as well as.

There must be an edge for highly skilled workers during resettlement and an expanded capacity to integrate newcomers in society and economy. The 2018 target must exceed 350,000, he concluded.
