Less Restrictions on Religious Clothing: U.S Army

US Army
The Pentagon in the U.S have brought to light their new policy on religious clothing and what can now be worn by the countries military. While many are happy with the new ruling there are certain groups that still feel the changes are still falling short to what it should be doing where religious clothing is concerned. Never the less this ruling is a landmark for the U.S military.

The pentagon announced that departments within  the U.S military will grant requests for their troops to wear religious clothing, the request may be turned down if wearing the religious clothing will put the rest of the troop as well as the wearer in danger. Other than that head scarves, turbans and other religious clothing will be allowed to be worn, upon request. The individuals who will benefit the most from the changes are U.S migrants from a Jewish, Muslim and Sikh background, who wear head wear, beards or articles of clothing that is part of their religion and is very important to them and their religion. For the U.S army to acknowledge religion and the wearing of religious clothing is a massive step forward and shows progression in  the army and in the United States as a whole. Wiccans is also a religion, people who follow this religion often have piercings and or tattoos for religious reasons and the new U.S army ruling may now also apply to them.

Although these changes give a certain amount of freedom were religious clothing is concerned,  the serving members in the army must seek permission of their commanders before going ahead and wearing religious garments.

As it is not a certainty that the religious clothing can be worn as permission must be granted first this means that certain men and women who follow the Sikh religion will not want to enter the U.S army. For a Sikh to not wear their religions clothing will  mean to them, that they are not choosing their religion any more and this is a choice they do not want to make. Although this ruling is a step in the right direction many more changes still need to be made, but where wearing the religious head wear will put others in danger has to be at the forefront of the US army and so this is why permission has to be sought. Safety must come first as in every aspect of army life.
