Overseas skilled professionals are coming to Labrador and Newfoundland for working purpose in huge numbers and the province is expected to welcome good number of new residents in 2015.
The Advanced Education and Skills Minister, Kevin O'Brien said that the people across the world are looking forward to move to these places as these places are considered as the best places to live for its good wages and culture.
O'Brien stated that currently the province has one of the hottest economies in Canada and out of total immigrants sponsored under the
Provincial Nominee Program (PNP), St. John's metropolitan area consists of 54 % of them and 46 % of them reside across the rest of the province.
Notably, 80% of immigrants in the province are nominated under the skilled worker class and 20% are nominated under the international graduate stream. And, immigration has assisted employers to address emerging labor market needs. Also, attracting and retaining workers along with their families, who are highly skilled and have experience to contribute for the betterment of the economy are vital components of the government’s work force development agenda.
Allegedly, the province has an aging population and need to replace it with skilled professionals to plug the skill gap. Most of the nominees are heading to Labrador and Newfoundland from India, Philippines, Ireland, Bangladesh, China, South Africa, United States of America, Nigeria, United Kingdom and Pakistan.
