Is racism to blame for lack of skilled workers in UK?

skilled worker in UK

For a country so regularly mentioning the need to cap immigration, crack down on migrants and close the borders due to an extreme migrant population it is surprising that the UK have publicly revealed that they will to actually invite more migrants into the country.

A list has been published of the desired occupations needed in the UK due to extreme shortages in many fields. The people that are most in need, and this is noted as critical, is Neonatal Intensive Care and Operating Theatre Nurses. There’s been a notably shortage of all nurses in the UK for the past few years due to the over work and little pay that the nurses in this country receive and this has brought on many strikes and people leaving the occupation.

Nurses in the UK can work more than 12 hour days for a salary that is just above the national minimum wage, they can be expected to miss their breaks, take on far too many tasks than is possible and undergo much stress and strain during the working day with little thanks and no bonuses or perks. To be a nurse today in the United Kingdom, it needs to be your vocation and a dedication to the job is very much required, your aspiration to help those in need is to be the only satisfaction you will get, it is claimed by many nurses. There have been more walk outs by nurses in the last five years in the UK than ever before and it is clear that radical change is needed.

The other skills shortages in the UK today are - Doctors, IT Developers and Programmers, IT Analysts, Civil Engineers, Industrial Engineers, Chemical Engineers, Mining Engineers, Chefs and Radiographers.

When the UK abolished all restrictions for those from Romania and Bulgaria earlier this month it was expected that migrants would arrive in their drones but it turned out that day one just saw one dozen people. It is clear that the UK need to do more if they want to enticemore workers to the country as as it stands there is just not enough appeal.

Racism and prejudice is spreading through the UK like wildfire and this is noted by all prospective immigrants, it is unfair and it is unjust but it is also enough to put people off wanting to migrate to a country where they fear they will be hated for their colour or creed. The mother of murdered teenage Steven Lawrence who lost his life to a racist attack in the 1990’s has said that she fears Britain has taken a giant step backwards and she worries what the future here holds for those who are not white British.
