IRCC Invites Express Entry Candidates with 241 CRS Score

November 2017, 02
EMAIL  Print A+
Express Entry candidates who are eligible for the Federal Skilled Trades Class and candidates with enhanced provincial nomination gained big in the November 1 draw.

In it, IRCC sent invites to FSTC candidates who had scored 241 CRS points to submit an application for PR. The CRS cut-off threshold required for candidates as provincial nominees were 673 points.

795 candidates have been issued the ITA of which 505 were allotted to FSTC candidates, and 290 to candidates who obtained a provincial nomination by opting for an Express Entry-aligned PNP Stream.

This draw was unique in the sense that it was second time during the year that IRCC conducted a program-specific draw meant for FSTC applicants and for provincial nomination candidates. It was the first draw after the May 26th draw attracting all candidates in the pool. It was similar to the Draw held on May 26th where candidates belonging to provincial nominee category and also in Federal Skilled Trades Class were invited.

So far 10 draws have taken place for all programs between May 26th and November 1st, and one can state that program-specific draws are not the norm but an exception. They benefit all candidates as IRCC removes some candidates from the pool. The candidates having a provincial nomination, and a  score of 673 CRS points, who figured in the pool on November 1st  were sent the invitation. They belonged to the categories of FSW, CEC, or FST. The fact that FST candidates too had been invited on November 1st , shows that all CEC and FSW applicants will increase their ranking because the program-specific draw had taken place.

With so much deviation noted in the CRS thresholds and draws which are program-specific, it is observed that candidates belonging to different backgrounds were invited to apply for PR.

Candidates who have never worked or studied in Canada, but had obtained a job offer from a Canadian employer and had  LMIA support with English speaking ability and sufficient external work experience were successful to obtain an ITA. Another feature was that having a spouse with adequate intermediate language ability supported with a bachelor’s degree also made the grade. Obtaining a provincial nomination under the province's program gave them 600 points and assisted them to apply for immigration.

With this draw the total number of ITAs issued from January 2015 had risen to 140,619. 75,775 were issued in the present year.

This draw was a surprise regarding the composition of the persons invited and reflected the dynamic approach taken by IRCC. The government had issued more invitations in 2017 more than what it did in the past two years totally. This also shows that the federal and the provincial governments consider Express Entry pool to be a great source of harnessing the talent. People are benefiting from federal/ provincial strategies to welcome newcomers (and their families) in the country. In order to boost their chances of success, aspirants had to enter the pool.
