Indians migrating to Canada is not new, historically since the early 20th century, the Sikhs from Punjab moved to distant lands in search of better prospects. The adventurous Indians faced a tough time in the distance land too.

A Japanese ship carrying Indians were returned to India after it was docked in Canada for two months and the inhumane treatment and the injustice for Indians happened 100 years back was remembered and apologized for the same by the Canada Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on May 20 in the Parliament. This is for the second time the Canada Prime Minister apologized for Komagata Maru incident; Justin said that more than a hundred years ago great injustice took place on the Canada land.

A big tragedy in the mass movement to Canada has shaped Indian settlement in Canada, and it is one of the robust and influential communities in Canada.

The Komgata Maru Ship carrying Indians reached the sea shore of the British Columbia in Canada in the year 1914. The ship contained Indians and some other country nationals; they were refused permission to dock the ship and after two months 20 were allowed to enter Canada, and the remaining people were sent back to India. This is history, and now Indians living in Canada are influential, and they are into politics, business, and active in almost all sectors of the economy.

Now Immigration to Canada has taken a different form, Indian Diaspora in Canada is very huge and every year a good number of Indians moves to Canada for settling in the maple leaf country.

Immigration to Canada is not new, it has been for centuries, and the only thing is it has taken a modern form of Immigration. Such as skilled immigration, student class, and business class, etc.,

Indians in the recent economic immigration program Canada Express Entry are the highest beneficiaries of the Canada permanent residence, according to the Canada Express Entry annual report.
