Indian government told to raise bond issue with Royalty

The Indian visa industry body Assocham, has suggested to the Indian government that the issue of a £3,000 bond for Indians travelling to the UK should be discussed with Prince Charles when he visits the country next month.
The Visa bond policy has been suggested as a way of ensuring that Indian travellers do not overstay their visa. However the idea has raised the hackles of the Indian government who think their citizens should be treated the same as other countries – especially given that China is to receive special treatment to lift visa restrictions.
Assocham have said that they want the visa bond idea to be abandoned and that even if it was targeted at high risk people, the scheme would be bound to be misused. It will also create confusion.
Prince Charles and Camilla Parker-Bowles are due to visit India for nine days next months and will be engaging in a Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting.
