UK-not-to-Increase-Work-Visa-Fees
Taking up the concern of the IT industry of India, the central government has urged the government of UK not to implement its plans that are being considered by it of raising the visa fees for skilled employees and increasing the least income threshold for intra-firm transfers as it will raise the monetary burden of such firms.

The Ministry of Commerce has sent a letter to the Home Office of the UK, saying that the report of Advisory Committee on Migration (MAC) on the professional visas be ignored as it will have impact on the IT companies of India along with the UK firms utilizing their services.

According to an official, a letter has been sent from the office of the Commerce Secretary to the Home Office of the UK. A message would soon be sent from the Minister of Commerce as well.

Earlier, the MAC had proposed a 1000 pounds skills charge on the firms for each employee being recruited from overseas. It had also suggested escalating the least income threshold for tier 2 visa from 20,800 pounds to 30,000 and 41,500 for third party contractors.

Nasscom is working with many UK’s interest groups for building popular view against the step taken. As Nasscom had already presented its information to the MAC, which says that the IT firms of India contribute very less to the net migration. The Ministry of Commerce had also argued that putting the restrains on the IT professionals from India would not serve to bring down the migration as many are short term employees residing in the UK for a year or less period of time.

Many sections of the UK industry had also criticized the measure. And as per the report of MAC, IT professionals from India accounts for the biggest visa numbers under Tier 2 in the year that ended on September 2015, with around 90% of certain visas being granted to the employees from India.
