A news article by one of the popular online media website unveiled that UK’s Immigration policy has a significant impact on the local population, and it’s a statistical fact. A decade ago, one among 11 Britain were born overseas. Today the proportion has changed i.e. one in eight – 12.4 percent.
Rapid economic growth and productivity have changed the face of immigration throughout the country. A huge number around 42% of London’s population was born outside the UK where as North England has a mere 5% of the population, which was born outside of UK. The immigration movement in UK deserves more attention and should be focused.

According to a research conducted by the Organization for Economic Co-operation and development (OECD) shows immigrants actually bring in over £7bn more than they cost. That's the equivalent of a penny off the basic rate of income tax. Labour free movement or labour immigration has always been positive news for local British businesses as it helps businesses to hire multi skilled workers from all over the world apart from the locals.
Though GDP increases due to the rise in immigration, but it can also create few other issues. One of the major problems in Britain is the housing, which the country is facing due to the shortage of affordable properties. Apart from housing, talented and highly skilled immigrants are another significant problem as they are giving stiff competition to British employees.
In pure statistical terms, immigrants are more hard working than their UK counterparts. Compared to UK nationals, 71% of foreign nationals are economically successful and dynamic. They are better-qualified, 38% of non UK-born people in Britain have degrees, compared with 30% of UK nationals. The biggest portion of immigrants actually works in finance sector, followed by health, retail, and manufacturing. This has a significant impact on job prospects for British citizens and locals are worried about their future.
Since the start of the economic crisis in 2008, seven British workers have lost their jobs for every one non-British employee to have lost theirs. Some are likely to see this as an argument against immigration. However, the economic message is just as significant, Britons need to work harder if they need to compete. That's the inevitable outcome when you're competing against the global workforce, rather than just one country.
