Hong Kong Tops Bloomberg's Life Expectancy Table!

September 2013, 20
EMAIL  Print A+
Hong Kong was for a very long time a British dependency but, as we all know, it now falls under Chinese jurisdiction.  There are still many expat British people living there but, of course, it is now a magnet for people from all over the world.  People are attracted to Hong Kong for the diversity of opportunities available in both leisure and business pursuits.  It seems that the country is also a place to enjoy a long life.  A recent survey by Bloomberg puts Hong Kong at the top of the life expectancy table for the Asia Pacific region reporting that you can expect to live to 82 years old which compares favourably with the likes of Papua New Guinea, East Timor and Cambodia where you might expect to survive to only 62.
Hong-Kong-tops-Bloombergs
Positioned where it is in South East Asia, Hong Kong has always enjoyed its status as a global trading hub.  There is plenty of scope for business with a good number of the “Fortune 500 companies” having a base in Hong Kong so there are good opportunities for people to bring their professional skills to this city and to prosper.  It is easy to meet like-minded people here with the many Chambers of Commerce organising plenty of social and networking events.  There are plenty of job opportunities here especially for native English or Chinese speakers.  Like anywhere else though you will need to present yourself well with a well-written CV and the wide-ranging skills that are always in demand in a thriving city like Hong Kong.

The city has a great social life with numerous bars, clubs, theatres and eating establishments catering for every kind of international cuisine.  Whether you want a lively, noisy night out with lots of other people or something much more intimate Hong Kong will always provide whatever you are looking for.  Sporting opportunities are numerous and, of course, these are an excellent opportunity for networking.  New arrivals in the country can join one of the many sports clubs and enjoy tennis, golf, rugby or anything else you can think of and they will soon make friends from their own country or from the many other nationalities present in Hong Kong.

Getting around the city is easy with the most popular means being water transport.  It is literally everywhere in this harbour city of Hong Kong. The famous Star Ferry costs HKD1.20 providing, arguably, the best (and cheapest) tourist outing in Hong Kong. The views are always spectacular, but you should also try the ferry at night to witness the city lights, and the famous light show.  If you wish to go further afield this is an ideal location for hopping across to other Asian locations such as China, India, Thailand and Singapore, all very easily accessible from Hong Kong.  This city truly is a perfect location to live for so many reasons.
